What is an Electromyography/Nerve Conduction Velocity (EMG/NCV) Testing?

EMG/NCV testing evaluates the integrity of the peripheral nerve and the functioning of the nerve. Nerve testing is performed by placing a recording electrode on the muscle of the limb involved and applying electrical stimulation at prescribed points over a nerve to determine nerve function. If indicated, muscle testing can be performed to evaluate muscle function in addition to nerve function. Patients who are candidates for EMG/NCV testing include those with carpal tunnel syndrome, ulnar nerve problems and neuropathies, such as diabetic neuropathy
