Botox for Spasticity

There are several different ways in which Adult Spasticity is commonly treated: Physical therapy, Occupational therapy, and Prescription treatment options. To treat increased muscle stiffness in the elbow, wrist, fingers, thumb, ankle, and toes caused by Adult Spasticity, one of the prescription treatments your doctor may recommend is BOTOX®.
When you have spasticity, your nerves send continuous messages to certain muscles telling them to contract or tighten. BOTOX® is injected directly into the stiff, tight muscles in your elbow, wrist, fingers, thumb, ankle, or toes to block those signals.  This helps reduce muscle stiffness and tightness. Injection is given by a specialist who will determine the amount of Botox and the locations of the injections based on your individual needs. BOTOX® is injected approximately
once every 3 months.  It may take longer than 1 treatment session to see results. That is why it is important for you to come back approximately every 3 months, as directed by your doctor, especially when you are starting treatment.
